National Mothers Hall of Fame because:

Our mother, Mary Ellen is the epitome of positive survivor ... Steeped in heavy doses of reality. She has been mine and my brothers strength and optimism during many phases of our lives. She is an incredible mother, who has is also able to share her gifts of love, confidence and laughter with her three beautiful grandsons; Connor (9) Cameron (6) and Chase (4). Mary Ellen never walks away from anything that she believes in, and has spent MUCH of the last 15 years heavily involved in various charities and community involvement. The National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Metro Detroit Chapter (NAMI Metro) was begun with our equally amazing father, Leon. Grammy loves to play any imaginary games that her grandsons can conjure up, (even when they tell her she's not "Playing it right") and works effortlessly to install lifelong positive qualities in them. Kindness, respect and humor are just some of her amazing gifts. Out entire family is blessed by her presence and she has held us together more times than she is aware. Every battle, every fear, every moment of joy that we have experienced as a family has our mother at the helm; helping to steer us all in the right direction. Mary Ellen is full of faith, love, joy and perseverance and she inspires all comes in contact with. We are infinitely blessed.
